Sports Medicine

Sports medicine medical professionals receive specialized training to restore function to injured patients so they can resume their normal activities as soon as possible. They are experts at shielding physically active people from disease and harm.

A medicine in and of itself, sports medicine is not. The majority of medical professionals are board-certified in family practice, general medicine, or another field. Some doctors who practice medicine also have surgical training; often, they are orthopedic surgeons.

Other specialists who are not medical professionals may accompany a medicine healthcare practitioner to give care:

  • Physical therapists: They aid in injury recovery and readjustment
  • Nutritionists: They could aid in weight increase or loss. To assist people in enhancing their physical performance, they might offer food recommendations.
